Stilling The Storm

A storm is a known natural disaster that has it’s negative impact on human lives in many ways. It is a stronger wind force than the normal that travels over land and sea and comes with heavy rain. It can cause loss of lives, properties, cause people to miss important appointments and much more. As we grow in the Word of God we begin to see that storms can operate from a supernatural basis. God can send storm as a wake up call for humanity living contrary to His word while storms can operate from the kingdom of darkness. It for us as believers to discern the source.

Someone could ask me to prove this and I could answer from the scripture. First in 1 Kings 18 Elijah had that shown down on Mt. Carmel with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophet of Ashtaroth to prove that the God that answered by fire was the true God. In Chapter 19 when Jezebel was told what happened she sent a threat and Elijah ran away. We see where God spoke to Elijah and told him to go forth and stand upon the mount. The Bible say “Behold the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord but the Lord was not in the wind and after an earthquake but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire and the Lord was not in the fire and after the fire a still small voice and when Elijah heard it he wrapped his face in his mantle” Second Jesus and His disciples were going over on the boat and Jesus was at the helm sleeping and suddenly there came a storm while they were on the water. This strange and boisterous wind caused the disciples to cry out to Jesus. Jesus arose rebuke the wind and there was a great calm. Jesus would never oppose what His Father was doing. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Right here we know that this storm wasn’t from God it rose up to oppose the work of Jesus because someone was about to get deliverance. Third Jonah 1:4 says “But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken” Here we see God creating a storm on the sea to get His servant Jonah on track who was running from the work of God to work His purpose out.

Our lives challenges can be seeing as storms. Some storms are allowed by God to push us into our destiny while some are set to destroy us. Some storms can be lost of jobs, sickness, marital failures, children misbehaving, children not doing well in school and financial difficulties. No one is without a storm If we look at storms in the natural we are more than likely to deal with it in the natural but if can see how storms really operate then we would approach it on a spiritual level. Most of the disciples on the boat with Jesus were experience fishermen but they knew that this sudden wind was unnatural so they had to seek help from a spiritual level.

In Acts 27 when Paul was on the ship as a prisoner being brought to Rome to see Caesar suddenly there was a contrary wind and they had to change course but it get more dangerous. Paul was able to perceive danger and spoke to the sailors but they didn’t listen to Paul. These were experienced sailors who continued to fight their way. The wind now changed from contrary to tempestuous which was called Euroclydon. Now these sailors seeing the ship tossed with the tempest until they saw neither sun nor stars for many days tried to operate in their own natural abilities. They began to lightened the ship but Paul stood in the midst of them and said if you had listened to me you would not have leave Crete to have this problem. Paul encouraged them by telling them that an angel of God told Paul in Acts 27: 24 “fear not, Paul thou must be brought before Caesar, and lo God hath given thee all them that sail with thee” Here Paul himself a righteous man became the coverage for the people so that no life would be lost.

It is by the spirit of the Living God our storms can come to an end. The disciples called out to Jesus, Paul had a word from God by an angel. The children of Israel suffered the storm of slavery until God raised up a deliverer called Moses. Whatever the storms are that we are going through let us ask Jesus Christ to take over. We can’t afford to deal with the storms with our natural strength and abilities. We must engage our storms through prayer fasting and the word of God When Jesus stretch out His hands against our storms then there will be a great calm

  1. Storm could be devastating, hard, and hash,it is biblical to trial, it’s normal, it’s human, but what should be expected at the end of the storm is great calm, thank goodness it not just calm but a great calm.. meaning it’s not biblical to be overcome by the storm of life.
