Spiritual Development

As responsible citizens and part of the family of God, it is important for us to do some type of stock taking to enhance our spiritual development. We should take stock of our personal lives, our dwelling place call home and our churches. These three areas are important for our spiritual success. The success in these three areas will guarantee the success in all our other associations, like the work place and in other public domain.

Our Personal Lives

The Bible encourages us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. This is the chief way we can develop spiritually. All of us were born in sin and the impact of the sin nature is what we are up against. Sin has created selfishness in mankind. Mankind can be influenced by the devil to be selfish they as to hurt others. The Bible encourage us to crucify self and this can be experience when we see the ‘fruit of the spirit’ being manifested and the works of the flesh being conquered. When self is in operation it not only cause hurt towards others feelings, it also cause destruction of lives and property, marriage breakups, sicknesses, manipulation and witchcraft operation. Every true born again believer in Christ have experienced the transforming work of the cross of Calvary in their personal life.

Joy And Peace

There is joy and peace that comes with this experience. Satan and his agents will always seek to destroy this good experience. It is for us to fight the good fight of faith to be able to live a life that is pleasing to God. We are instructed in the Bible on how to live a successful Holy Spirit filled life. It is important for us to take stock of our own life. The Bible encourages to be doers of the word and not hearers only. Paul said in his letter to the Christians at Corinth, in 2 Corinthians 13: 5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Here they were all told to take an introspect of their personal lives so they would know how they stand. This can be done by matching ones life with the word of God then we can know if Christ is in us.

Motive Of The Heart

Stock taking of our spiritual life is a must. Jesus had addressed the woman had given her only penny and said she gave the most because that was all she had. This seems contrary to those who have given a lot of money. It could be that they could have given more or their heart wasn’t into what they were doing. Therefore our self examination is not about the quantity of things we have do but the quality which signifies our motives

Our Home Development

Our home is a place of rest, comfort and peace. This is where we enhance family togetherness and experience our spiritual development. The truth of God’s word should be mirrored from our daily living in our homes. This will make us to become a point of reference for respect in our community. Christians are accountable to live an exemplary life for our love ones to pattern. Our personal altars should be a place where the youngest mind around us can understands the value of prayer. Many prayer warriors have developed from their personal prayer closet. Jesus even encouraged the people not to pray to been of men as the hypocrites do. He went on the say in Matthew 6: 6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly” Many problems are solved nationally and internationally from our prayer closet.

Claiming Spiritual Territory In Our Homes

Not every home is the same and depending on our home situations things can be difficult to address. A home whose foundation is set on biblical principles has it easier to show better spiritual growth. The home that recently come in contact with Jesus Christ will have more struggles. This will become a wrestling with spiritual forces to take back territories the enemy once had power over. There are homes where one or both parties were alcoholic. There are homes where fighting and cursing were constant. The devil will not go without a fight. As we progress in these battles it is important to do spiritual inventory to understand how well we are developing. This will help us to recognize the changes in our home environment. We will also notice the interest and unity for family prayer.

The Church, The Spiritual Ground

The church is the institution that will help to sharpen and prepare us for heaven and also to handle societal problems. Spiritual gifts can be groomed if they are not resented or suppressed by leadership. The church is the place for godly council and biblical corrections. The Bible tells us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. This godly approach will help us to live a clean sanctified life. The power of true unity was manifested on the Day of Pentecost. The Apostles continued in it and we see from scriptures the signs and wonders that followed them. The church is more than a social gathering, it is a place of worship and personal repair.

Healing Power in The Church

I know one preacher who normally say that the church is likened to a hospital. I would agree because when we become wounded there can be a word fit our situation to heal those spiritual wounds. Those that are oppresses by the devil can be loosed. Those who are afflicted by sickness can experience healing. Building up each other is important as well as individual seeking God for themselves. Here is where we are empowered, refreshed and given insights beyond man capability. Doing so we can be better able to deal with each other in tolerance, love, meekness and truth.

The Head Of The Church

One day Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 16: 13 “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?”. The disciples began to tell Jesus what they heard on the streets. Jesus then hit home by asking them In Matthew 16: 15 “But whom say ye that I am? Simon Peter was swift with a revelation and said in Matthew 16: 16 “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” After the questions were over Jesus made a rock solid declaration to the disciples in Matthew 16: 18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Christ is the head of the church and we are the body. For the body function from the instructions given by brain. So too, for our spiritual development we must function by instructions given to us by Jesus Christ.

Work of Christ In The Church

It is important for us to take stock of our churches’ spiritual development. We need to understand the vision of leadership and the alignment with the will of God. The word should be preached with signs following. It is very important for us to understand the warfare the church is dealing with. When a church is effective and operating in accordance with the word of God the warfare becomes stronger. There are fiery trial we must encounter. A church that becomes a social gathering and have lots of fun time rather than having to be dealing with issues will not look good on the spiritual scale. They will be like dwarf spiritually while those who have gone through battles have enhanced spiritual muscles and is poised for victory.

Conclusion

As Christ becomes the head of our lives His teachings become our daily practice to enhance our spiritual development. This will enhance our spiritual development and make our lives successful even in these three areas that is highlighted in this post. May we seek to grow in Christ so that our maturity can be purposeful in the development of the lives of others.

  1. This is a great way to break up where we need to focus on spiritual success. I love how you included the three main places. I think sometimes people forget about God once they leave church. That’s sad.

    • That is so true. Our spiritual life determines who we are. Everyday of our lives whatever we do and where ever we are should represent Christ
