Reviving The Foundation

An Original Work/ Maurice Malcolm/ Oct 15, 2019

The Bible says if the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do?When we look at the foundation of the Church of the Living God we know it was built by someone who was living a life of total obedience to the heavenly Father. The Bible says in Philippians 2: 8 that Jesus Christ “was obedient unto death even the death of the cross” The prosperity or the blessing of anything can be determined by the blessings and favor the person carries which stems from their foundation. Along with being obedient Jesus Christ possesses according to Isaiah 11: 2 “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord” So we can safely says Jesus has a good foundation. One day Jesus was with is disciples and he asked them some very important questions. After awhile Peter got the revelation from heaven to the question Jesus asked, he told Peter, in Matthew 16: 18 “Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Jesus had already given His assurance about the church. No matter what we see going on throughout the world the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church, that is the called out set apart people.

The foundation of the gospel also began with Jesus Christ and His teachings and were upheld by the Apostles which is known today as the Apostle’s doctrine. Acts 2: 42 ” And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in prayer” This began with obedience to Christ promise when he told them in Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” One hundred and twenty gathered in obedience to what Jesus said at the time of Pentecost and this promise came and it was also called the ‘Pentecostal Outpouring’ which continued with great signs and wonders. Today we seek after this kind of outpouring. This great happenings came under attack by religious sects that felt threatened by the truth, but the word of God grew with signs and wonders and divers miracles. This foundation was made in truth, obedience and paid by the blood of Jesus Christ.

The beauty of a believer’s spiritual life is hinged on their foundation. If the church we are attending lacks in word and power with God, then the battle for spiritual growth will be more intense. The spiritual background of the family that we are born into and married into has a major role on how far we can grow spiritually. The environment we settle or live in also has it’s impact on our growth. In all this we have to put up a fight. The Bible say in Ephesians 6: 12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rules of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” If our foundation is shaky, messed up or broken we have to fight for renewal. Jesus said Behold I make all things new. Jesus is ready to change our bad foundation and make us a wonder and a light in this dark world but we have to live according to His instructions. I will breakdown the foundation of the church, the family and the environment we settle or live in the paragraphs below.

How does the church impact our foundation? If leaders are not hearing from God, lack visionary and not living according to the Word of God then the foundation is shaky. The High Priest Eli wasn’t hearing from God and it had an impact on the nation of Israel. If a young believer who is seeking to grow starts having some spiritual experience, for such believer to go to a leader who is not hearing from God will cause their spiritual growth to be hampered. That young believer could be criticized a s fanatic when God is really dealing with such person. Joseph had dreams and told his brothers and they hated him. The church leaders might not celebrate what God is doing in the life of a believer because such believer does not walk in their s

How does the family impact our foundation? In Genesis 38 Judah has committed incest unknowingly by getting his daughter-in-law pregnant. The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 23: 2 “A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to the tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord” The background of that child started out in sin but thank God for the redemptive power of the shed Blood of Jesus Christ that is able to wipe our slate clean once we come contact with Him.

How does our environment we settle or live impact our foundation? God gave the children of Israel specific instructions of what to do and not to do when they enter the promise land. God know as human we can be influence by the lust of the flesh lust of the eyes and the pride of life. The sin nature can be easily gravitated to so God had to remind His people how to conduct themselves. In Deuteronomy 4 God used Moses to remind them of the statutes and judgments they must obey. They where not to inter-marry because it will affect their faith in God, they will take on the curses of the people by serving their gods

How can we fix our foundation? I will write three things that can fix our foundation. (1.) We must be genuinely born again. A new life in Christ is a new start. Our foundation had been corrupted by inherited sin form Adam and our fore-fathers who walked contrary to God word. We have to believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Believe in his salvation by His shed blood to blot out our sins. We must believe like those people who asked Peter in Acts 2: 37-38  “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?” “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”

(2.) We must establish covenants with the Jesus Christ. The covenant that God had with Abraham, Issac and Jacob stands. God never turn back on His word. Jacob called his children one day to tell them what will become of them. We can safely say this is a good foundation as God Himself had made a signature to this calling Abraham ‘friend’ We can look at one of the sons of Jacob whose name was called Judah. Let us look at the prophecy made about him. Genesis 49: 8- 12 Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.

Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

All these great prophecies came forth concerning Judah. When Judah fell into sexual sin with his daughter-in-law it setback the promise unto the tenth (10th) generation but the covenant God had made with Abraham still stand. This breakthrough finally came forth in the life of David the tenth of the generation. If the Children of Israel had obeyed God when they leave Egypt all of them would have made it to the promise land in a short time. Sin is what created the setback and many generation died before they made it to the Promise Land. Sin is what is setting us back, once we submit ourselves to Jesus Christ and come into covenant with Him then yokes and stronghold will begin to break and the evil foundation holding us back will begin to change. We remember that Abraham was from an idolatrous background but his obedience to God changed everything to be known today as father of faith and friend of God. Hannah the mother of Samuel came into covenant with God and break the yoke of barrenness when she told God in 1 Samuel 1: 11 “And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.” God needed a vessel to work through for the nation and she made the covenant to give the child Samuel to God for God’s own purpose and God came in agreement with her.

(3.) We must have a prayer life. The Bible says in Hosea 4: 6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” Secrets are given at our personal prayer altar. Once we have a prayer life our knowledge will start to increase through revelation by word of knowledge, visions, discernment, deeper understanding and the application of the word of God.

Lord anything in my foundation that will hinder my spiritual growth destroy it now in the name of Jesus

Lord visit my foundation uproot all that is to be uprooted strengthen all that need to be strengthened purge all that needs purging.

Lord Jesus by your shed blood separate from any connection of evil foundation and cleanse me.

A better foundation builds a better tomorrow. Let it begin with me and let it begin with you.

  1. Thank God for this blessed assurance that the gates of hell will never prevail against His church. Sometimes we get discourage when we see the negative things that happen in the church, but we will never lose hope when we believe that the gates of hell will never prevail against the church of the living God. Amen. Thank you for this inspiring post. I will share on my Facebook.
