Open My Eyes Oh Lord

As Christians we know that the Lord speak to us through dreams and visions. Why would God choose to use these methods we may ask. It could be that He want to place something in our memory so we can know that He is talking to us and also the memory of it can be used as a testimony. As humans, God has given us eyes to see. The eyes are both physical and spiritual. The physical eyes are known to operate at birth and the nurses and our parents would have put our eyes to the test to see if they are working well. The spiritual eyes were given to man and operated normal as the physical but became closed because of the fall of man. When man comes into contact with God then their eyes are opened. People operating in the dark world use unrighteous methods to open their eyes. As children of the Most High God we endeavor to walk in righteousness. One day Elisha the prophet had to pray to God to open his servant’s eyes because the servant was troubled by what he saw. The servant was limited, he was only able to see the trouble in the natural when he saw the host of men with chariots that was sent out to capture Elisha encompassed the city and panic sets in. After Elisha’s prayer was answered by God the servant eye’s were open and he was able to see the spiritual protection Elisha had.

When our eyes are open we can be led safely by the Spirit of God.

When our eyes are open we will walk in confidence.

When our eyes are open we can discern the true prophets from the false prophets.

When our eyes are open we can be a blessing to others around us.

When our eyes are open we become a threat to the kingdom of darkness.

Today as we meditate on the goodness of Jesus Christ may we through His word see Him as who He is. Psalm 119: 18 “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” Our spiritual eyes also give us clearer understanding of the word of God. The Psalmist who was able to see naturally was asking God to open his eyes. When we are able to see spiritually while reading the word of God, then understanding will comes to us in a different dimension. Paul encouraged the church at Ephesus in Ephesians 1: 18 “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”

Open my eyes is not just about seeing things spiritual it is the capability to live a wholesome fulfilling life pleasing unto God. The open eyes will make the work of the kingdom easier as we will be better able to walk in the spirit.

Open my eyes is the ability to walk in wisdom and the understanding of the word of God

Open my eyes is our spiritual life coming into maturity.

Moses’ eyes were opened when he saw the bush on fire and it wasn’t consumed.

Isaiah’s eyes were opened when he saw the Lord high and lifted up

Ezekiel’s eyes were opened when he saw him as the wheel in the middle of the wheel

John the Baptist’s eyes were opened to behold the Lamb of God

Paul’s eyes were open both physically and spiritually when he encountered Jesus Christ

John the Apostle’s eyes were opened when he saw the One who was the slain Lamb and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, who was worthy to open the book

May our eyes be opened as chosen vessels of Jesus Christ to be a blessing to the body of Christ

  1. Praise the Lord. This is a wonderful post. Our eyes need to be opened to see the blessings that God has in store for us. Well written and well said. Thank you, Maurice.
