Purpose Of Moral Values
The moral values or ethical standards that are set out as rule or regulations. They can be maintained if we get familiar with them and decide to keep putting them into practice. As societal standards change the moral values diminishes. What have been set out can be maintained by knowledge of their importance and practice for the greater good.
Understanding what the moral values are will give us clear insights that the good values are eroded by societal flaws. The question that could be asked is ‘how do we maintain moral values’ Seeing that somethings of value have been depreciated, it now become our duty to take measures to fix them.
Biblical Exposition Of Leaders Who Corrected The Wrong
When Israel was to be come a nation after leaving Egypt God instructed Moses concerning the laws that they should uphold. Many times through the history of the nation the people had turned from following the law.
Josiah Learned And
In the Bible we see the youngest ruler of rule Israel at 8 years old made it up in his mind to uphold moral values. The Bible says in 2 Kings 22: 2 “And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left” When the high priest Hilkiah found the book of the Law he showed it to Shaphan. Shaphan later read the book to the young king. The king then rented his clothes in a show of repentance. In the verse nineteen of the same chapter the Bible described his heart “Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the Lord” The kings heart was at the right standing in humility and ready to obey God he would not face the punishment in his life time. Read 2 Kings 22 – 23 for clearer understanding
The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 6: 16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein” There is a standard that is set by the Most Holy God for us as humans to follow. These guidelines are set to keep us from sin and it is set in the moral code of ethics for us to abide in to keep evil from our dwelling. The prophet Jeremiah was told to remind the people to stand in the way and look and see what is happening. Their looking was to enable them to see the breakdown in society and where the nation have gone wrong. For changes to take place they need to ask for the original instruction manual or the old path that had kept trouble and curses away from their society. The part they should be walking in is called the good way. They need to seek after it and walk in it. The result of getting back on track by applying the right moral value that was set out from the start is ‘rest for their souls’
Proverbs 22: 28 “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set” Even though this is speaking about a physical monument we must understand that the ancient landmark is there to highlight or signify an instruction that they should abide in and not differ from. The ancient landmark itself can be there to remind them of their pass diligence in obey God’s command and the victories they had won.
God have made us a free moral agent. He had said in Deuteronomy 30: 19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” Maintaining the moral values set out is a choice for us to make. God’s standard of holiness will always remain. Choosing to obey by maintaining those valves will grant us life. In Deuteronomy 6 God gave the moral instruction on how to guide the young children so they can grow to understand and place value on the testimonies so they won’t turn away from them. Turning away from maintaining moral value and doing as we please will lead to death. I implore us seek to know the moral values given to us in scriptures and its great impact on society when humans thoroughly obey them. It will keep us from entering into reproach, sufferings and destruction. May we all choose to walk in the council of God’s instructions so reproach can be far from us. Moral values kept will enhance our economic standard as selfishness will be eliminated from our lives We will live in better health as we seek to do the right things and enjoy the right friends.
