Living By The Power Of God Pt.1

To be a successful Christian in this day and age we have to be armed with power. From the Bible we see Jesus when he came on the scene and begin His ministry He operated with power. We know that the Holy Spirit give power to individuals who receive Him. It will be impossible for us to defeat the forces of evil that opposes righteousness without operating in the power of the Holy Ghost. To maintain a solid clean Christian life we have to fight. The Bible says we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. This goes to show the levels battle we will face and we must be fierce against these spirits dictating the evil in our environment.

What Happened At The Baptism

At that particular day when John was baptizing at the Jordan river he told the people about Jesus John was able to recognize Jesus because it was foretold to him by the Holy Spirit. Jesus came to be baptized by John which was an obedient act to fulfill all righteousness After Jesus was baptized the heavens were opened unto Him and the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove and there came a voice from heaven that gave the assurance of the anointed one in who the Father is well pleased

Jesus – Holy Ghost After Being Baptized

As Jesus started His ministry after being baptized in Jordan river by John the Baptist the Bible says in Luke 4:1 “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness” Being full of the Holy Ghost means being full of power. This power enabled Jesus to use the word to overcome the temptations of the devil in the wilderness as we see it in the verses that followed in Luke 4: 2- 12 Being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit the devil was no match for him so the devil left Jesus for a season. The Bible tells us in James 4: 7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God.resist the devil, and he will flee from you” Naturally we are no match for the devil, therefore this power to resist the devil like Jesus did can only be successful when we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us.

Jesus – Returning To Galilee In Power

Throughout His ministry Christ continued in power. After He was victorious over the devil the Bible says in Luke 4: 14 “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about” Power cannot be shut up or boxed in. Jesus being full of the power of the Spirit had to exercise this power. As this power was exercised by Jesus Christ He became popular throughout the region. The fame of the world can lead to confusion trouble, disgrace and even death. The fame experience by servants of the Lord can bring joy, peace, redemption, deliverance and success if approached with humility and continual obedience.to the Holy Spirit. Ever true child of God should desire to experience and operate in the power of God.

Jesus Gave Power To His Disciples

When Jesus called His disciples and told them to follow Him. He thought them many things and they saw great miracles, signs and wonders. While Jesus was tutoring them one day He called them and gave them power to do supernatural works. In.Matthew 10: 1 “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease” This supernatural operation of the power given to the disciples made them to become excited. This power was given for that moment when Jesus had sent them out. This power at the time operated when it came upon them. Jesus was giving them a foretaste of that which would come on the day of Pentecost and after. The disciples were excited that the spirits were subjected to them but kept them in sobriety by telling them to rejoice that there names are written in the Lambs book of life. This goes to show that receiving power is not only to do exploits and see mighty signs and wonders, it’s more important to receive power to live right so that our names can be written in the Lambs book of life

As we yearn to please God and as stated in the introduction To be a successful Christian in this day and age we have to be armed with power. When Jesus called the twelve and gave them power against unclean spirit to cast them out was the era when the Holy Spirit would come upon mankind As the dispensation changed after Jesus death burial and resurrection and the one hundred and twenty went to tarry in Jerusalem and they received power, from that time the Holy Spirit came to live within mankind.

Let us see in the part two of this writing how the Holy Spirit operates beginning from the time the disciple’s experience at Pentecost to this day..

  1. We definitely need to live by the power of the Holy Spirit in these times. I like that you emphasized that it is only with the power of the Holy Spirit will we be able to resist the devil. We cannot fight the devil on our own. That is why so many Christians are fighting a losing battle with sin. They are fighting it in the flesh. Thank God He has empowered us with the Holy Spirit and it is for us to receive Him into our lives.
Excellent post, Maurice. Keep up the great work that you are doing. You are a good role model for young men.
