I Am The True Vine

A vine is what bring the nutrients that the branches of the plant needs for survival, growth and production of fruit and flowers. Jesus used this analogy to make it clear to us that we have need of him to survive. Once we are cut off death begins. Sin is what separate man from the Living God which will cause us to be thirsty and hungry and have need for newness of life.

After God formed man from the dust of the earth, man was laying there without life. The Bible told us that God blow in man the breath of life and man became a living soul. God is life by Himself and a part of God was embedded in us when he blow into man. As God’s vessels or servants we are created to carry out His mandate here on earth such as worship, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. Adam and Eve was doing quite well in their relationship with God in the garden. The Bible says “In the cool of the day God would come and talk with man. When the devil led them into sin it separated man from God and man life started depleting spiritually. Before man sin, man united with God in such a way that God would have Adam naming the animals as the Bible says in Genesis 2: 19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof” This authority that Adam had was cut off and God even drove man out the garden. The communication level was also decreased.

From the different dispensations and generations mankind keep wondering away from God. God by His infinite love have given us His only begotten son Jesus Christ who is the True Vine for all humanity.

Can you imagine a branch that has been cut off from the vine of a plant? Surely I believe you do. It looses it nutrient and soon become dry. This can be the same way when humans are cut off spiritually from Jesus Christ the “True Vine” Now, Man in their spiritually deprave state not knowing what is wrong with them will seek to fulfill that empty void in them. This can be the reason why idolatry is so prevalent in our world because man was made to worship and they will always seek something to worship or turn to drugs.

We know that Jesus is the Word, St. John 1: 1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God” The Bible goes on to tell us in St John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us(and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of Grace and truth.

The Word which is spirit and life is also called the en-grafted word. When branches is cut off from their Vine the only way form sustenance is do a process called en-grafting. In James 1: 21 “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and receive with meekness the en-grafted word, which is able to save your souls. Just like two or more plants are en-grafted by the farmer to bring forth his or her expectations so it is with us. To be who God had made us to be when we are off course and become thirsty we need the Living Water and also we need the Bread of Life for our hunger. The woman of Samaria who came by the well where Jesus was sitting when she had that encounter with the Word, Jesus Christ and received revelations about her life the Bible say she left her water pot and ran in the city and told the men in St. John 4: 29 “come see a man who told me all things that ever I did. ; is not this the Christ?” All this woman’s seeking to fulfill that hunger and thirst she had, was limited to the moment. The woman meeting with Jesus maybe she was thinking that this man might be the right man for her because this stranger from a different strata of society saw it fit to talk with her (Remember the Jews had no dealing with the Samaritans)

Being hungry and thirsty spiritually can’t be fulfilled by one’s self or man made philosophy. It takes the intervention of Jesus Christ who is the Word to quench our thirst soul and satisfy our hunger. This woman was separated from the true source and had an affinity with ancestors who worshiped in the mountain . Even thou she was separated there was knowledge of hope that she though she might not be privileged to access. The woman said to Jesus in St John 4: 25 “I know that Messias (Messiah) cometh, which is called the Christ,when he is come, he will tell us all things.” The Bible says no man come in contact with Jesus Christ and remain the same. Can we imagine those things we read that Jesus told this woman in St John chapter 4 and then for her to tell Jesus about the coming of Christ? When Jesus answered her in verses 26 “Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.” Remember in verse 7 Jesus said to the woman “Give me to drink” and she questioned him being an Jew and asking a Samaritan for water. Jesus said to her “if you know the gift of God (for God so love the world that he gave…) and who had asked for the water she who have asked him and he would give her living water.” Jesus went on to describe the result of the water he would give in verse 14 “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” This woman quickly respond “Sir give me this water that I thirst not neither come hitter to draw.” After more revelation from Jesus she ran to be a witness of the Messiah.

The hope that when Jesus come He would tell them all things was a one and one experience by this woman. Her thirst was quenched by the encounter she had with Jesus and she was now able to give back or extend through her evangelism. Before that time she would fall into sin with these men now because her thirsty soul was quenched she was able to direct them to the “True Vine” because they too were hungry and thirsty and need filling.

This story was a wonderful encounter that helped both the woman and the people from the city. Like them we are all born in sin and only through the salvation of Jesus Christ we can be en-grafted into the family of God. It is important for us to read and understand with humility Romans 11: 15- 24 how we are grafted in and connected to the True Vine. James also told us in James 1: 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and receive with meekness the en-grafted word, which are able to save your souls. When our soul is watered by the word of God and we receive the meat of the Word then we will experience spiritual growth and peace.
