The workplace is where a lot people spend most of their up time. While some people have to handle more than one job to balance their finance some travel long distance to and from work. Some people get minimal sleep amount of sleep and their time at home is to mainly sleep. Friendship bonds are created, characters are highlighted, the workplace help us to know the true us because of time spent in such environment. As we relate to co-workers, bosses, supervisors and customers on a daily basis, the work environment should be a place of empowerment where character development takes place.
Using strategic management leaders could formulate ways to establish a happy work environment. When such bond of unity is created it should be trickled down from the top management to regular workers so that workers will begin to empower each other. The Bible says in Philippians 2: 3 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” This will cause less divisions, hatred, sabotage and persons setting up others to lose their jobs.
I have seen this and I am sure many people have notice this. There are people that would do their best to make their desk or their office space look very nice and welcoming but the character of the individual speak opposite. Our character is what gives the lasting impression to our co-workers and customers because no matter how someone pretends the true self will come out through test of time.
The productivity of the workforce is equal to the level of stress carried and caused by each individual in that environment. A chain is strong as it’s weakest link. All of us have issues to deal with at some pointing time that affects our emotion. Someone can go to work feeling down, if that person can be encouraged by others then the productive flow of the work will continue. If workers fight against each other then this will also hamper the productive flow of work.
The character of each person in the work is vital to the success of that industry. This is why interview are done. The question could be asked how then the interview doesn’t stop the employment of those with bad character. I believe all of us who goes for an interview goes with an impression. The microscope of the interview is not able to detect bad character so it is very vital for workplace character building become an important strategy for success.
When these strategies are formulated and used in the workplace then it will have lasting impact on our customer and other business affiliation who will notice the love and unity among a particular company. In my work we have times when we do Customer Relation Training so we are keen on how we deal with customers and know when good customer service is been done. I went on vacation in Jamaica and went to “Fruitalicious Frozen Yogurt” and I was so surprised by the great customer service they offer. From the moment I stepped through the door, the welcome, the smile, the communication, to the purchase and to time I was leaving everything was perfect. In 1 Peter 4: 8-10 ” And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging.10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” Peter was encouraging the church to be fervent in love (charity means love) among each other and to be hospitable one to another, we can administer the same attitude to each other in the workplace. The flaws of each other will be override with the good conduct we practice towards each other. Practice makes perfect therefore good character building can be experience and the results express within the workplace.
I believe the success of “Fruitalicious Frozen Yogurt” will not only depend on the good snack they sell but I had notice the closeness of the workers and their enthusiasm in serving the customers. Just like good home training of an individual will be noticed in the public so is the character building of each person in the workplace will be seen in the public.
Let our practice of character building within the workplace empowers us to do good to each other and the result will be recognized by our families and friends too.
