This morning the thought of diligence was impressed upon my spirit. Today we look at diligence and how it impacts our lives and the benefits we can receive. From dictionary.com diligence is defined as “constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind”
To be productive in anything we expect to gain success from we must be diligent in our approach. Our constant effort in applying ourselves to the task will make us better at what we do. Being persistent in our approach on a given task will also enable us to guide someone because we have learn from our mistakes too. Many major corporations we see around the world were born out of the diligent effort of the founder and those who stand to see the visions accomplish.
Whatever God has created us to do or to become can only come into fruition when we obey the visions or instructions given and be diligent in applying ourselves. Israel as a chosen nation was given specified laws that they need to apply to be productive as a people. Deuteronomy 6: 1- 3 “Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: 2 That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey” They were also instructed to diligently teach these laws to their children and children’s children. Deuteronomy 3: 7-9 “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates” When we are responsible to train up the child in the way he should trained, that is, according to God’s standards, we must be diligent in achieving this task.
Whatever God has purposed upon our lives to do we must be diligent about doing it. Jesus was diligent in coming to give His life as a ransomed for our salvation. He completed a good ministry in three and a half years that impacted the world with signs and wonders. He fulfilled all the task that He came to do. He wasn’t distracted, He knew when to remove Himself from the people including His disciples to go apart to seek God. As Christians for us to achieve what God has called us to do we must follow the things that Jesus Christ did. We must know how to disassociate ourselves from distractions if we want to focus well and achieve what God has called us to do.
The benefits of diligence is task undertaken being completed in time expected. Being diligent we will see our gifts and talent working in our lives. The benefit of being diligent makes life meaningful and we feel as sense of fulfillment. Achieving wealth become easy as the Bible says in Deuteronomy 8: 18 “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth” Being diligent takes away poverty and makes us to become a blessing. Being diligent also establish our name. Being diligent brings us into maturity and develop the characteristic of being a discipline person. Being diligent enhances our creative skills and vision into a great inventors. Joshua was told by God in Joshua 1: 8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” The Lord was saying to Joshua be diligent in reading, studying, meditate and do what is written in the book of the law. We as Christians need to do the same to be successful. We can be effective believers when we put this in practice. Let us be diligent in what Jesus Christ has called us to do because in the end we will receive a crown of life.
