Many times in life we have passed through afflictions, disappointments, rejections and we are crushed. The questions we often asked when we think about our circumstances are, why me? why should I have to go through this? what have I done wrong? Pain is never easy. We all have received an inheritance called sin, which came about because of the fall of man. We were born into it and it takes a hold of us and we do not have the power to get rid of it by ourselves. This enemy call sin is passed down through generations and the only antidote for it is salvation through Jesus Christ and His shed blood. Sin has marred our character, hinder our purpose, stagnate our spiritual growth and even block the mind of some people from receiving Christ. To overcome these negative impacts we need to separate ourselves from sin, seek to do or have deliverance done to break yokes and generational curses. Some pain is caused by generational curses, self-imposed sin and attacks of the enemy. God who is sovereign is able to help us to know him through our pain once we surrender our hearts to him.

When Jesus was about to take on to Himself the sins of us all, He agonized in those moment of His prayer in the garden of Gethsemane. The Bible said He pray until His sweat became like drops of blood. The pain of separation from the father wasn’t an easy one. This separation that Jesus was about to experience was strange and new but it was valuable. Why was this separation valuable? This separation was valuable because Jesus would become the ultimate sacrifice to take away our sins. The Bible says in Isaiah 53: 5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” Jesus went through all this because he valued our salvation. Jesus was without sin but because of our need for salvation He became sin. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53: 10 “Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand”

The pain we go through while serving God is of high value. The Bible says in 1 Peter 4: 12-13 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” There is a blessing awaits us in our pain. Whenever we see a ripe fruit looking tasty we want to get on the inside to enjoy the taste and its value. When we cut the skin off some fruit or crush the shell to get into the coconut we are going for the benefits. Some medicines are made when the plants are crushed and go through the pressure of heat when boiled so the necessary value can be extracted.

When God want to bring a certain type of anointing on earth He chooses people who he has placed value and purpose in. God then groom their character and then crush them. We would cry out, God why is this happening? God will either keep quiet or tell us that He is working His purpose out. In the time of pain we will lose friends, relationships, fancy things and social life. Why because we become a misfit to this world, we hardly understand what is happening to us and they themselves don’t understand us. Then God begins to reveal the value that He placed in us. We are the olive in the midst of the garden, we become the purpose to bring healing, deliverance and anointing to even those who forsake us. The pain of rejection and loss has crushed us. We have passed through the olive press to become the oil, that is, the oil of healing and oil of deliverance. There is an anointing that is placed upon the crushed because we will become selfless and there is no room for pride. We don’t have the power to hinder our pain but by God’s grace He brought us through and enlightens our eyes to see the beauty of His purpose. Now His presence becomes strong with us because we carry the oil of the anointing for breakthroughs to shape lives and nations and bring forth authentic testimonies. The value of allowing God’s will through our pain can launch us in places of elevation or in the secret place with God where revelations are easily downloaded to us.

After pain comes laughter and after sorrow comes joy. The Bible states in Roman 8: 18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” We have hope because of the faithfulness of Jesus who paved the way for us. Hebrews 12: 2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” Unlike us, Jesus knew what was ahead, He knew the joy that was set before Him so He endured the cross, He endured all the afflictions and He is set down at the highest order of authority. We now have an opportunity to follow Jesus Christ example in our times of afflictions. The Bible assures us in 2 Peter 1: 19 “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” This is the holy scriptures depicting the life of Christ. Why is this so, According to Revelation 19: 10c “for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”

When we are being the crushed and there is trouble on every side remember we are ripe and being ready to bring glory to God. It will please the Lord to crush us because He knows what he wants to bring out of us. We have gone through some process and become crushed so the hidden treasures God placed in us can come out. We are a purpose, a possibility and a promise to bring light, healing and deliverance to this world. The aroma of our fruitfulness is in the atmosphere and we are needed to bring glory to God. After we are crushed and our purposes are recognized, then the new chapter of our lives will be revealed as we walk in the humility and grace of it. There are things that we are doing now and have achieved that are born out of pain that the Lord allowed us to go through. Let us say like Jesus “not my will but thy will be done” and go through our pain and reap the fruit of righteousness.

May we value the grace given to us as we go through our pain for righteousness sake. May we receive the eternal prize when we finish our race. May our laughter be multiplied after our pain.

  1. Beautiful this is a timely reminder to those of us who have been through this process or is experiencing affliction as you have stated not all affliction is because of sinfulness but it’s a way chosen by God to propel us to greater heights in Him there’s so much flowing through my mind right now but there’s no need to add to what you have said well done.

  2. Very enlightening. As human beings we are afraid of pain or we dont want to go through any pain at all. But allow us to go through pain while we going through this pain he is with us. He is not going to give us more than what he can bear. In Romans it reminded us that everything work together for good for those who love the Lord.
