The Wall of Hindrance

Whenever there is going to be a transformation in our lives, especially when there is a flow of good things pertaining to the great expectations there will often be some form of blockage. We could call it our Jericho wall like hindrances

Israel came out of Egypt and experienced great signs and wonders. At the time of the transition of leadership Moses spake unto the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 31: 2-5 “And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the Lord hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan. The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said. And the Lord shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed. And the Lord shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you”. The signs and wonders they had seen while coming out of Egypt could boost the confidence they had gained and then an assurance from God to them by Moses.

Even at this excited moment a younger well developed Joshua was also encouraged by Moses in Deuteronomy 31: 7-8 “And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed” Naturally when we are hearing words of comfort and assurance, we wouldn’t be thinking about the struggles or battles we might face before the word of God to come to pass. Our focus at the moment is a victorious end.

After the transition and Joshua now becoming the leader, he received encouragement again even after the death of Moses. If we look carefully at the words of encouragement Joshua had received from Moses we see that God also spake the same words three times to Joshua when he became the leader. The officers of the people repeated the same words to Joshua “Be strong and of a good courage” when Joshua went to speak to them. This goes to show that on the road to our successes there are going be challenges and everyone of us need encouragement, to “be strong and of a good courage” This was the moment when strategic planning becomes necessary because we are not sure what is ahead of us. Joshua and all Israel and to figure out the way to go forward. They realized that there was a Jericho to conquer and they needed divine instruction. For every forward move for you and I, we need divine instruction, because, like Joshua and the people we have not walked that path before.

The enemy devices are not easily broken down that is why the Bible say we wrestle not against flesh and blood, it is a wrestle and a struggle. We are not suppose to be expecting an easy walk over. Jericho was fortified with strong wall and it took the power of God to destroy the works of the enemy. Some situations we are facing must be conquered by divine instruction. Like Mark 16: 20 “And they went forth , and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following” Like Joshua and the people we need the Lord working with us and confirming His words for our victories.

We must be mindful of the walls the enemy set up against us. If we can see why God allow these walls then part of our battles are already won. Some of these walls are: WALL OF REJECTION – this is the plan of the enemy to put us in isolation by turning people from us. The other side of rejection is that God can use it to advance us spiritually. John was cast to the Island of Patmos and there God gave him the book of revelation we are reading today. Psalm 4: 3 “But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself” WALL OF OFFENCE – The enemy will often use people to offend us, but God can allow this to train us to operate in the spirit so we can live above the flesh. When the enemy uses people to offend us and we react with humility, we please God and Jesus call us bless, as St. Matthew 5:11 says “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice for great is your reward in heaven” WALL OF OPPRESSION – When we are oppressed and all seems to work against us it is for us to take our eyes off the problems and look to Jesus especially when the opposition increases. In Mathew 5: 4 Jesus said “Blesses are they that mourn for they shall be comforted” As we face oppression and we put our trust in Jesus Christ He will turn our mourning into dancing and reward us for the fruit of righteousness that we seek to display. The Psalmist David told us in Psalm 4: 5 “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in the Lord” God wants us to do right at all times and leave the oppressors to Him. WALL OF STRANGE BATTLES – Those who should stand with us in the times of need are the ones that turn against us. Those who were there with us in the times of battle suddenly are in league with the enemy. These are strange battles but we are encouraged in 1 Peter 4: 12 – 14 Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try us as though some strange things happen unto us, but rejoice in that we are part-takers of Christ sufferings that when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy”

The Jericho walls that is standing against our breakthroughs, I pray a word from the Lord Jesus will empower us to do exploits. May the Holy Ghost bring us into remembrance of the word of the Lord so we can speak to our Jericho walls. May we through the eyes of the Holy Spirit see way beyond our Jericho wall so we can be bold to rise up and conquer and bring our visions to reality. May our Jericho wall become a thing of the pass. May our testimonies be packed with signs and wonders so it can empower others to trust in God to give them victory over their Jericho wall.
