What is righteousness? The Bible tells us that righteousness is what exalteth a nation. Righteousness is the practicing of God’s words. Righteousness is what bring a man out of obscurity and place him on the mountain top, An example is Joseph who was sold by his brothers into slavery. Joseph was then later lied on by his master’s wife because he refused her sexual offer and was cast into prison. This is because he feared God and practiced righteousness by rejecting the sin of adultery. Righteousness keeps mankind from bondage when we choose to walk in the pathway of Christ. Practicing righteousness will enable us to understand God’s nature, expectations and judgement
From the beginning of time God dealt with mankind by establishing a relationship through communication. The Bible tells us that God would come and talk with Adam in the cool of the day. When Adam and Eve disobeyed the command given to them and God came looking for them in the cool of the day, they were out of place. Sin is what push mankind out of place. When God called and finally got an answer, Adam’s response was that they were naked. It is sin that strips us of the innocence we came into this world with and rob us us of the robe of righteousness that God puts on us at salvation, when a child of God fall from grace. Mankind was made to worship and be in relationship so if they are not obeying the voice of God they will still have the inclination to seek to worship and that is how idolatry takes strong root in many lives. All over the Bible the scriptures are decorated with “the word of the Lord”, “the voice of the Lord”. thus saith the Lord”, “and the word of the Lord came unto me saying” All these show communication which depicts relationship with God and man. Christ did not come with religion he came to bring us back to an alignment with our heavenly Father by showing us the example of relationship. We see how Jesus communicate very often with the Father through prayer while he was walking as man on earth.
Sin had plunged humanity into darkness and spoiled may destinies, so Jesus Christ the true light came to light up the path way to righteousness. Isaiah 9: 2 says “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined” There was a need that mankind had that only Jesus Christ could fix. He came in the volume of the book to do the will of the Father. This was save us from our sins.
The effort of man creates religion and various ideologies. The effort of man causes confusion. The Bible says in Jeremiah 10: 23 “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” We are created by the righteous all knowing God so we are not qualified to formulate our own righteousness. Paul tells us in Philippians 3: 9 “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith” We are born in sin and sin opposes righteousness therefore we cannot have our own righteousness. Jesus the spotless lamb of God is the only one that can bring us into righteousness. Jesus said in John 14: 30 “For the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” John the Apostle also assures us of who Jesus is to us because we are not able to stand in our own righteousness. The book of John told us in 1 John 2: 1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” We are all prone to fall in to sin but Jesus Christ the righteous will mediate our case, he will speak on our behalf for our forgiveness.Jesus loves us and had shed His blood for us all because without the shedding of blood sin cannot be blotted out. Through Christ selfless and righteous work by giving his life so we can achieve this redemptive promise of salvation we become righteous through him.
As life progresses and many inventions are done some in small quantity and some in mass production. Man has the propensity to operate in pride when they step into greatness, which often push them into selfishness. God does not walk with the proud therefore pride causes man to fail. The Pharisees and many Jews didn’t accept Jesus’ teachings The Bible tells us in Romans 10: 3 “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God”. These people went about creating their own doctrine out of a religion and establishing their own righteousness. The Lord Jesus told us in Matthew 11: 28- 29 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” The Apostle Peter tells us that when all our righteousness which are filthy rags fails we should step away from our pride and do as 1 Peter 5: 7- 9 “Casting all your care upon Him for he careth for you” This will enable Christ to step in and change our situations for us.
Let us look to Jesus Christ, call upon him, lean upon him, trust him, pray to him and believe in His righteousness.
