Bible Principles of Prosperity

Everyone desires a life free from burdens and struggles. We would work hard develop savings and wise investment plans to reach our expected goals. From ancient times until now there are those who traverse the earth seeking for lost treasures. Often times these are shown in movies and documentaries. The earth is filled with lots of precious things that one would consider to make them prosperous.

I have heard a preacher spoke about someone who sold his land to have enough money to go into another country in search of gold. He had exhausted all he had without success and return to his country. He then found out later that the land he sold, the new owner found out that there was gold on the land and started a mining business right there.

What is prosperity? According to the yourdictionary.com website prosperity is a state of being wealthy or having a rich full life The world have their means of prosperity. Some ways are through gambling, good investments, extortion, drug peddling, black market trade and many more. In this era many churches have coined their message of prosperity around financial blessings, financial breakthroughs, having big houses and many vehicles of choice to drive. Why has the church increased in the preaching and teaching of the message of prosperity while minimizing many other aspect of the gospel? It is necessary to apply wisdom so as to have a balance gospel. I believe prosperity message has it’s positive as well as it’s negative.

The negative part of enforcing prosperity message is that people can become caught up in seeking wealth that they become selfish, self-centered, greedy and compromise to get gain. This can cause broken home, lost of friendship and community disparities. If the mind becomes embedded in just thinking about wealth gain to the neglect of one’s spiritual and social well-being then prosperity is far from us.

The positive side of prosperity is when it is done according to God’s instructions and having the fear of God. In the Bible Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ Minister was given a clear revelation which was a direct instruction of prosperity. The Bibles says “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shall have good success” (Joshua 1: 8 kjv).

Joshua was told to follow the instructions in the book of the law, by reading it, speaking it, meditate on it day and night and to be very keen in observing to do all that is written. Just like Joshua we must be a do of the word of God, that is, we must put God’s word into practice daily. This will keep us from sinning and cause us to attract the favor of God so that we can have a prosperous life.

Many things in life have to be done in specific order to have successful result and the biblical principles of prosperity is no different. God gave us this formula in the Bible saying “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6: 33). Here the order is to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ. When this is done we will be led by the Holy Spirit so that we can have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2: 16b “But we have the mind of Christ”. Once we are led by Christ we will receive revelations on the steps we need to take to walk into our prosperity. Once we are seeking Him first our desires will be adjusted to His will and all that will be added will bring us prosperity.

Another principle of prosperity the Bible gives us is in Malachi 3: 10 (kjv)”Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” By God’s infinite wisdom throught the different dispensation we can see in scriptures that a tenth part of one’s earning is given to God and he promise to multiply his blessing upon us. God had made a promise and He is a God at His word, Psalm 138: 2b “for thou hast magnified thy word above thy name” Remember Mary told the people at the wedding in Galilee where Jesus turned water into wine ‘whatever He says to do, do it’ Once we believe the word of God and follow His instructions we shall walk in prosperity

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 10: 19b ‘but money answereth all things’ Prosperity is more than just having money. Money must be combined with peace, health, favor with God and man, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to be effective. Prosperity is the impossibilities of circumstances that becoming possible for us because we are connected to the true source of breakthroughs. Prosperity is to be kept by the living God out of trouble and and walk in righteousness. The generations that follow and desire to walk in the pathway of righteousness will maintain prosperity and escape the curses and sufferings.

How can one expect to be prosperous outside of the will of God? In the book of Haggai 2:8 God said “The silver is mine and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.” He also said that in Isaiah 45:3 (kjv) “And I will give thee the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord which call thee by thy name am the God of Israel” We only achieve the biblical prosperity when we apply the principles given in scripture because it will certainly eliminate curses and sufferings. We seek him in prayer to know if the way we desire to take will be a prosperous one.

    • So true Aidan, because true prosperity is when someone is able to connect with Jesus Christ who will guide us on how to deal with people. A very important scripture i like is Proverbs 3: 29 which says Device not evil against thy neighbour seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. Thanks for your comment.
